![]() ![]() The Mamluks paid special attention to the composition of military treatises known as furūsīyah, which were precious sources extensively describing horsemanship, military training, and weaponry (Al-Sarraf, 2000). Rockets for launching Greek fire by means of shooting flying fire arrows ( sihām khiṭā’i) propelled by a primitive form of gunpowder appear in a number of Arabic military treatises, written mainly in the Mamluk period (1250–1517).
